SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
The May Regular Stated Session
meeting was held Thursday, May 15, 2008. In addition to Moderator Don
Barger, attending were Ruling Elders Shirley Bailey, Ray Brust, Audrey
Edwards, Helen Mungle, Ted Mungle, Julie Palmer, Betty Smith and Velva
Yeomans. Church Treasurer Rob Edwards also attended. Elder Bailey
presented the devotional using “Signs of Spring.” Pastor Don presented
Continuing Elder Training basing his comments on Chapter
G-10.0302(a), Inactive Members, Book of Order. Some actions
taken and reports given included:
- Pastor Don distributed a
printed report of his activities 4/18/08 through 5/15/08, which in
addition to his worship planning responsibilities, included 21
visits to the hospitalized and home bound; meeting twice with the
Pastor Nominating Committee; and videotaping a 30-minute interview
to be shown on Channel 2 for Paducah Cooperative Ministry.
- Special offerings taken
totaled: Living Waters for the World $165; PCM $130; One Great Hour
of Sharing $203; and Pentecost $203. The Church and Society
Committee recommended that the 40% of the Pentecost offering to
remain in the local community be given to the local Bellewood
organization.
- Each time communion is
celebrated, teams take communion to the hospitalized and homebound.
- Memorial Fund: A table
has been located for the Narthex area. Quotes for carpeting in the
Narthex area, including the stairway and areas adjacent to the
pastor and secretary’s offices, is being secured. Anyone wishing to
make a contribution to this project should make checks payable to
Westminster Memorial Fund and mark for the Narthex improvements.
- A church family has
offered to finance the cost of upgrading and elevating the walkways
at the rear entrance. A contractor has been hired and work should
begin soon.
- Barbeque-on-the-River:
Session approved Westminster participating in 2008 and approved the
$330 to participate. A chairman will be approved at the June
meeting.
- Homecoming will be held
sometime during the summer. Members of the planning committee,
working with the Church and Society Committee, will include Pastor
Don, Shirley Bailey, Vernon Brown, Mike and Julie Golightly, Debbie
Gray, and Julie Palmer.
- Elder Ted Mungle served as
commissioner to the May 13 meeting held at First Presbyterian
Church, Murray. A highlight was a videotape presentation of the
latest clean water installation in Ticul, Yucatan, Mexico, by the
Living Waters of the World team. Next presbytery meeting will be
held Saturday, August 9, at Highland Presbyterian Church,
Hopkinsville.
- Presbytery State Clerk
Charlie Owens will review the Westminster Minutes Books on July 19
in Hopkinsville.
