APRIL SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

 

The Regular Stated Session meeting was held on April 17. In addition to the moderator, CLP Don Barger, eight elders attended. Treasurer Rob Edwards was present for the Treasurer's Report (please review financial condition of Westminster on the reverse side). Rev. David Montgomery and Elder Don Fleming attended, representing the West Kentucky Presbytery Committee on Ministry, for their triennial visit. Rose Morgan and Michele Sither attended through the presentation of the Acts 16:5 Initiative.
Some of the highlights are listed below.


Continuing Elder Education:
Pastor Don distributed copies of "The Service for the Lord's Day and explained why Presbyterian's do things the way they do for Sunday Worship.


Pastor's Report:
In addition to regular pastoral responsibilities, other activities included: preparation of memorial service for Benjamin Gar on April 18. Preparation of materials for meeting with the Pastor Nominating Committee; participated in Morning Prayer group; attended board meeting and delivered food to Paducah Cooperative Ministry; Presbyterian Campus Ministry Board; and, attended conflict utilization class at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.
 

Acts 16:5 Initiative:
Presbytery of Western Kentucky sponsored a retreat on March 28 and 29 to introduce a program on revitalizing churches that participate. Rose Morgan serves on the Presbytery Mission Development Committee that was responsible for the retreat. Rose attended as a member of the sponsoring committee and representing Westminster were Helen Mungle, Michele Sither, and Velva Yeomans. No action will be taken until after Pastor Don attends the presentation by The Vital Church Institute.
 

Committee on Ministry Triennial Visit:
Rev. Montgomery and Elder Fleming led this portion of the meeting. Five questions were posed and discussion followed each. These questions were: (1) What are some of the good things that have happened this year? (2) What are disappointments of the past year? (3) What are strengths and what will be done during the coming year to focus on them? (4) What concerns do you have in the church and how will you expand mission in the coming year? (5) In what ways can Presbytery assist in the life of the church?
 

Homecoming Committee:
Elders Shirley Bailey and Julie Palmer will be forming a committee to make plans for this event. Plans will be submitted at the May Regular Stated Session Meeting.
 

Christian Education:
A digital projector and accessories were purchased. The Wednesday Night group set up a fund and as of the April meeting $631 had been collected to help defray costs. The old screen in Bunce Hall also needs replacing. Westminster Wednesdays will not meet during summer months. Last meeting before ceasing for the summer will be May 21, which is to be a pool party hosted by Helen and Ted Mungle.
 

Properties:
New leaks in the roof over the sanctuary and prayer room were visible following the last round of wind and blowing rain. Bids will be taken for repairs. Thanks to the Westminster Wednesday group that has applied two coats of "Kilz" on the walls in the Youth Center and work will continue. Chester Mechanical has performed a seasonal start-up inspection of the HVAC.
 

Worship & Music:
Living Waters for the World offering taken on March 23 totaled $203 and One Great Hour of Sharing offering taken on April 20 totaled $100. Presbytery Executive Rich Cooper will fill the pulpit on June 15 when Pastor Don is in Montreat. Communion was served April 20.
 

PW Activities:
Westminster was represented by six members at the Spring Gathering held at the Murray Church on April 19. PW prepared and served dinner following the memorial service for Benjamin Gar. The annual PW Birthday Potluck/Birthday Offering will be held on May 20. Evening and Guild Circles participated in the Presbytery PW special offering for Living Waters for the World and collected $225.
