JUNE 2008 SESSION HIGHLIGHTS


The June Regular Stated Sesion meeting was held Thursday, June 26, 2008. In addition to Moderator Don Barger, attending were Ruling Elders Shirley Bailey, Ray Brust, Audrey Edwards, Helen Mungle, Ted Mungle, Julie Palmer, Betty Smith and Velva Yeomans. Elder Brust presented the devotional using material from Guideposts. Pastor Don presented the Continuing Elder Training basing his comments on The Book of Order, Chapter W.4.4003h, and the question asked of elders when installed "Will you seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?" Highlights include:

Pastor Don distributed a report of his activities 4/18/08 through 6/26/08. In addition to his normal duties of running the church, he presided at graveside services for Lucy Weil; attended PCM board meetings and made food deliveries to PCM; attended Acts 16:5 Initiative meeting in Madisonville, and attended the Worship & Music Conference in Montreat, North Carolina. Director of Music Ministries, Debbie Gray, also attended the conference.
Treasurer Rob Edward provided the financial statements. The monthly report is printed on the reverse side of Highlights.

HOMECOMING!
On October 4 and 5, Westminster will have a Homecoming where all former members and special musicians will be invited to join us for food and fellowship. This is the kick-off leading to the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the organization of our congregation. Watch for additional information. Homcoming Committee members are: Pastor Don, Elders Shirley Bailey and Julie Palmer representing Session, Debbie Gray, Diane Gray, Julie Golightly and Mike Golightly.

BAR-B-QUE ON THE RIVER:
Dates are September 25-27 and Westminster will once again be participating. Watch Westminster Times and the weekly worship bulletin for more details.

FELLOWSHIP:
A group of five teenagers and three adults from Iowa will be hosted by Westminster on July 5 when they are traveling to the Youth Conference at Montreat. Our own Elizabeth McQuage and Barrett Edwards will be attending the same conference. On their return trip on July 12, they will be staying in Paducah again and plan to attend Sunday services on July 13. On Thursday, July 10, Westminster will host an evening meal for a Prebsyterian mission group from Minnesota in Paducah to work on a Habitat for Humanity project. Betty Smith will be asking for volunteers to help at the July10 meal.

PROPERTIES COMMITTEE
has been especially busy overseeing raising the sidewalks in the back so when it rains, worshipers will no longer have to wade water to get in the church; tearing out trees and shrubbery so work can be done toward the basement leakage problem; securing bids for some major roof repairs; and working on inside projects.
