MARCH 2008 - SESSION
HIGHLIGHTS
The Regular Stated Session meeting was delayed
to March 27 because of the ice storm. In addition to the moderator, CLP Don
Barger, seven ruling elders and Treasurer Rob Edwards attended. Devotion was
presented by Elder Yeomans entitled "Humble Arrogance" and using Philippians
1:21-24 as background scripture. A synopsis of actions and reports is listed
below. Please review the financial report on the reverse side.
- CONTINUING ELDER EDUCATION
was presented by Pastor Don using The Book of Order W-3.3604 and W-6.3000 on
serving communion to the hospitalized and homebound. Remarks also included
ways Session can show concern and care for the congregation.
- ELDER TO FILL VACANCY IN CLASS OF 2010--
At the Called Congregational Meeting on 3/16, Julie Palmer was elected and
she was installed during the Sunday morning worship service on 3/30.
- PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE was elected
at the Called Congregational Meeting on 3/16. Elected to the committee were:
Cathy Crecelius, Pattie Cromwell, Francie Edwards, Diane Gray, Nate Heider,
Bruce McBride, David Sither, and Betty Smith. Rob Edwards will serve as
financial advisor and Rev. Dr. Rich Cooper, Presbytery Executive, will serve
as an advisor.
- HOMECOMING SPECIAL COMMITTEE
was discussed. Watch for more information on a very special way to celebrate
Westminster.
- LENTEN SERVICES
statistics were given. The Sunday the Heath Elementary Choir sung,
attendance was 120. Attendance at the Sunday night Evensong was as follows:
2/17 - 30; 2/24 - 34; 3/2 - 26; and, 3/9 - 29. Attendance at the Maundy
Thursday service was 32. Attendance on Easter Sunday was 117.
- WEDDING GUIDELINES
have been amended by the Worship & Music Committee and were approved by
Session.
- PORTABLE COMMUNION SET
--An additional set will be ordered. The church currently owns one set but
usually two teams are used to take communion to the hospitalized and
homebound following communion services.
- PERSONNEL COMMITTEE GUIDELINES/PERSONNEL
GUIDELINES/POSITION DESCRIPTION - CHURCH SECRETARY
have been amended by the Personnel Committee and were approved by Session.
- CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
is investigating the purchase of a digital projector. This is an item that
could find many uses by different groups within the church.
- VISIT FROM WEST KENTUCKY PRESBYTERY
COMMITTEE ON MINISTRY will take place at the April meeting. This official
visit is done every three years. Rev. David Montgomery and Elder Don
Fleming, First Presbyterian, Murray, have been assigned to make this visit.
- PROPERTIES COMMITTEE:
The three-way light switch in the back hallway has been repaired and the
light can be turned on from either end of the hallway. Repairs will be made
to the sanctuary wall and the candleholder reattached. During the heavy
rains, there were many leakage problems. Bids have been secured to replace
roofing over the office area.
- ACTS INITIATIVE RETREAT
sponsored by the Mission Development Committee, West Kentucky Presbytery was
held 3/28-29 at Pennyrile State Park. Representing Westminster were Rose
Morgan, a member of the sponsoring committee, Helen Mungle, Michele Sither,
and Velva Yeomans.
